Quality sparkling wine for only $8?! In the case of Cristalino, absolutely!
Medium straw color, with good mousse and active bead; the smoky yeasty nose isn't exactly effusive, but it isn't stingy either. In the mouth, it offers creamy green apple and white grapefruit shaded with the smoke, yeast and some nice minerality. The wine shows good intensity and excellent acidity and while it is somewhat fruit forward, it still qualifies as dry, never straying into the sweet end of the spectrum. This is my personal favorite of the three Cristalino Cavas, and it gives more pleasure than anyone should have a right to expect for $8. A very satisfying everyday bubbly.
